 Map Submission Tutorial & Application Format

Hello. This tutorial will teach you how to make and submit your map to ShroomCraft.



Step 1: Building your map:

When building your map, keep in mind a few things.

1: Make sure your map is no larger than a 125x125 - Our average amount of players online is too small for us to be able to have any large maps, and having giant maps that span across hundreds of blocks is no fun. Try to make your map have a square border that does not span across this.

2: We really like having secrets on our map, so try to hide some around the area! Just try not to make them blantantly obvious like a sign under lava or an exposed button that leads to a piston that reveals a sign right in your face. When also making secrets, be sure to have a book that tells us where these are so we can insert the signs on point values we feel are reasonable.

3. Make it look good - square buildings made of the same material on a flat plane doesn't cut it. If a map is too bad we will not accept it, leaving your hard work to waste. Try to make your arenas extravagant, and unique.

I used a small scale for this comparison, but you get the point.

4. Please make the map balanced - By this we mean two things - No overpowered camping spots and make melee and archery equal to eachother - this means don't make the place have absolutely no cover making bow kits unstoppable, but at the same time don't have it so full that bows are essentially useless.

As for the "overpowered spots, here are a couple examples -


Players can camp here with bows or potions too and be untouchable by melee users.


Bow users can camp these 1x1 hallways and destroy any melee user from every touching them.



So that's pretty much it to building your map!

On to Step 2 - Getting a .schematic file

First off, you need McEdit. If you don't know what that is it's likely you don't know how to get it or where.

What you want to do is first go to http://www.mcedit.net/. Once you've gotten there, you want to click on the McEdit 1.0 button, shown below.



Once you've done that, two download links should appear. One for 32 bit windows, and one for 64 bit windows. Click whichever one your computer supports.


Once you've downloaded it it should be pretty self explanatory to set up so I'll leave that to you guys to figure out.

Okay, so we've got McEdit now. Open it up and load your world. In order to do that, you want to find the folder you downloaded McEdit into, and you're going to want to go into that folder, and double click the picture that says Application on the right of it.



Okay, now that you've got your McEdit open, you want to click on Open. You should get a screen that looks like this.



You want to open the world that has your map in it. In this case, I'm opening Example World because it has my map in it.

So what you are going to want to do is double click your world folder, and then click level.dat, then click on open.



Okay, your world with your map should have loaded. Now what you are going to want to do is make sure you have the select tool on and you want to left click one corner of your map and then click the opposite end, make sure you have your entire map selected (inside the white box). It should look something like this.


Now that you've got your map selected, click on the export button on the side. If you can't find it, just type in Ctrl + E.

Now all ya gotta do is give it a name and a location. Once you've done that, you've made your map file! But oh no, there's one more thing we gotta do, and that is...


Step 3. Zipping the file

What you're going to want to do here is that you want to make a zipped folder to place your files in. To do this, simply right click an empty area on your desktop or in a folder, hover over new until more options pop up. Click on New Compressed Folder. It should look like this.




Once you've done that, you want to drag and drop your schematic file into that. Once you've done that, your map is ready to be sent. Just be sure to rename your zipped folder to the name of your map. And hey, you're done! Or are you... There's but one more step to this.




Step 4. Making a download page for it.

I recommend using mediafire for this. First you want to go to http://www.mediafire.com and you want to click the button that says, "sign up" at the top righthand corner. Once you've done that, follow the steps Mediafire instructs you to do. Once you've made your account, you're going to want to upload your map file.

To do this, first log in to your account, then click on the button that says Upload. It's at the top-middle section of the page. Once you've clicked that, click on From Computer. Then just drag and drop your folder, and click on begin upload.

Tada! You're done. Now you can make your map application.




Just fill in these blanks.
